Foams have long been used in mine structures as absorbers of explosion energy. Aluminum foam is the most promising among them. The Research Institute of Steel has been searching for effective technologies for obtaining aluminum foam with the required characteristics for a long time. In cooperation with the Kamensk-Ural Mechanical Plant (KOMZ), a new foam material with a given pore size and unique energy-absorbing characteristics has been created using powder technology, using powders of high-strength aluminum alloy and titanium hydride. The new material is planned to be used in mine protection structures of promising armored vehicles.
